Entre os dias 17 e 20 de março de 2026, os alunos da turma A do 11.º ano do Agrupamento de Escolas de Mondim de Basto realizaram uma visita de estudo à ilha de São Miguel, nos Açores. Esta visita, desenvolvida no âmbito das disciplinas de Biologia e Geologia, Física e Química A e Matemática A, funcionou como uma aula viva que permitiu a observação direta de aspetos geológicos, geomorfológicos e hidrogeológicos num contexto magmático singular.
Ao longo do roteiro, os alunos tiveram a oportunidade de contactar com manifestações naturais associadas ao vulcanismo primário e secundário, reconhecendo o arquipélago como um autêntico laboratório a céu aberto para o estudo das ciências. Foi também possível constatar a presença da matemática no quotidiano, desde o gesto mais comum até à proteção contra os riscos que representa a atividade interna do planeta. O itinerário incluiu pontos de interesse, como Lagoa das Sete Cidades, Lagoa do Fogo, vários miradouros, Fábrica do Chá da Gorreana, bem como visitas de caráter científico ao Observatório Vulcanológico e Geotérmico dos Açores (OVGA), Centro Interpretativo da Cultura do Ananás e à Gruta do Carvão.
A componente prática da visita incluiu a observação de fumarolas e nascentes termais, bem como o desterro do cozido nas Furnas. Houve ainda um momento dedicado ao estudo da biodiversidade no Parque Natural da Ribeira dos Caldeirões e no Parque Terra Nostra, onde os alunos tiveram a oportunidade de experimentar os banhos termais quentes. Nestes locais, evidenciou-se a importância da articulação entre Ciência, Tecnologia, Sociedade e Ambiente (CTSA), permitindo compreender de que forma a relação histórica entre o ser humano e a paisagem contribui para a sustentabilidade do planeta.
Importa ainda salientar que os alunos demonstraram, ao longo de toda a visita, uma postura exemplar, revelando curiosidade, interesse e um elevado nível de participação nas atividades propostas, o que contribuiu significativamente para o sucesso desta experiência.
